CANNABIDIOL (CBD) AND DIABETES

Being a metabolic disease that causes the blood sugar level to increase above normal, diabetes have  different types each having its unique symptoms, causes and treatments.

Its essential to note that the diabetes referred to here is diabetes mellitus not diabetes insipidus. All types of diabetes mellitus shows general symptoms such as frequent urination, constant thirst, weight loss, blurry vision, extreme fatigue and having sore which appear to have difficulty  in healing. Furthermore, this disorder can also result to secondary issue such as, heart disease, stroke, neuropathy, retinopathy and vision loss, hearing loss, depression, dementia and so on.

Cannabidiol(CBD)  found in cannabis plants which have no property to make users high, unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) another major cannabinoid  gotten from the same plant. Cannabidiol have been used by many with diabetes to ease its symptoms and complimentions although, studies about its effect in this disorder is limited. There are mixed research findings when it comes to cannabidiol’s effect on diabetes symptoms and complication. Here we will look at cannabidiol association with improving diabetes symptoms and complication base  on researh and clinical trials.

EFFECT OF CANNABIDIOL IN DIABETES

PREVENTION OF DIABETES

In a study on autoimmunity, it was discovered in mice that administration of cannabidiol lowers the risk of diabetes and also appears to hinder destructive insulitis which is a disease of the pancreas, though no clinical trial have prove this to be true.

INFLAMMATION

Diabetes results to inflammatory condition and inflict damage on the walls of the blood vessels leading to neural injury and retinal damage in individuals with the disorder.

From a study that took place in 2006,it was published that cannabidiol administered  reduced inflammation and oxidative stress preventing cell death in the retinas of diabetic rats.

PAIN

In 2017, studies made on diabetic rats proved that cannabidiol can help reduce inflammatory and nerve pain which can arise from uncontrolled blood sugar level.

Aside from these research, other studies on diabetic animals have shown that cannabidiol also help to lower the risk of heart disorders such as myocardial dysfunction and cardiovascular disease, and also improve memory function in the brain of these animals. These are secondary issues that can arise in people with diabetes.

Furthermore, there are no evidence from research that administration of cannabidiol can lower blood glucose level, which is one of the greatest concern when treating individuals with diabetes.

USING CANNABIDIOL FOR DIABETES

Apart form the results gotten from research, most people with diabetes who have used cannabidiol as supplement to their medication have attest to the fact that using cannabidiol have helped reduce their morning blood sugar level, also reduce anxiety and help them fall asleep.

However, experts have concluded base on these evidence that cannabidiol cannot be a first-line treatment for diabetes,  but since it can help with the complications that arises in the disorder. It can be recommended as an additional treatment  rather than a replacement.

CONCLUSION

From research and clinical trials carried out, it has been proven that Cannabidiol can not cure diabetes but can be employed as a complimentary treatment. Nevertheless, if you consider trying cannabidiol talk to a doctor about your decision.
